Brunch at Ox Club, Headrow House Leeds | QueenBeady

Ox Club at Headrow House Leeds

Brunch. Quite frankly Brunch is fast becoming my favourite meal of the day. It’s the middle of the morning, when you’ve got a hangover and can’t even be bothered to move you know you need to eat but, you really don’t know what you want to gauge on? Well, that’s where my fave meal of the day comes in. There’s no rules with Brunch. I feel like I’m saying Brunch, a lot. But seriously, you can go sweet, you can go savoury. You can drink tea or you can drink Bucks Fizz – you decide. The endless possibilities that come with (sorry, it’s coming again) Brunch make it the most perfect excuse for indulging. With this becoming a real “thing” here in the UK, Leeds has needed to fill that gap in the market. Thus Ox Club at Headrow House was born.

There’s something seriously cool about this place. The moment you walk in you are hit with the stark white brick walls but the most retro 70’s style, wooden tables making it feel extremely homely. Almost like you could be in your friends kitchen diner chatting away. The great staff are ready and waiting to greet you and take you down to your table. A few tables were full when we arrived around 11.30am but more people followed very quickly. The menu is pretty short and sweet, with eight Brunch options it makes it all the more easier to decide what you want (well, sort of because everything sounds so darned good, whatdafuq do I choose?) I’d had a heavy night on the ol’ alcohol the night before so really required stodge.I decided to go for the classic “Ox Club Breakfast” whilst, Sophie went for the “Flat Iron Steak” which she tells me was cooked perfectly.

It took about twenty minutes or so for out food to arrive, but I really loved the slow atmosphere. That’s what Brunching is all about, having a leisurely morning, eating delicious food and enjoying great company. When our food arrived I think I salivated just a little. My plate was piled high & I think I was privy to eating one of the largest sausages I have ever seen in my life. Everything was just cooked to perfection, my poached eggs were just the right amount of runny which is a big deal in my eyes! My only criticism is that I think I would have preferred a more “traditional” pork sausage, this foot-long one had a real chorizo vibe going which at the time probably didn’t sit right on the alcohol laden stomach. All the while, this wonderful meal was all washed down with many cups of tea (trust me, I’d even go here for the tea. No-one can make a good cup of tea and these guys really can.)

Our visit wouldn’t be complete without trying the “Ricotta Pancakes” – after a recommendation from our waiter we decided that quite frankly, we needed to get ourselves some pancake action to share and my goodness, sweet baby Jesus (sorry, I mean “sweet bae-bee Jesus”) am I so bloody glad that we made that decision. Worried that we’d be too full I think I think I could always make room for these pancakes. Lathered in blueberries, honeycomb (there’s the money right there!) and wildflower honey crème fraiche I don’t think I have ever been in a literal food heaven. Not ever. Or at least, never like this. Words could not even describe how they just melted in your mouth, with every bite I felt like I was tucking in to a little cloud.

So, I honestly urge you if you are reading this pre 2.30pm, go and put on some clothes, drag yourself out in to the cold (sorry) and get your tiny little butts down to Brunch at Ox Club because you will not regret it. In fact, I’m a tiny little bit jealous that you might be doing that without me.

Where do you like to go to Brunch? I’d love to know your suggestions – or have you been to Ox Club on this recommendation? What did you think? Let me know in the comments below.
