DISCOVER YORKSHIRE + WIN WITH SYKES COTTAGES* | QUEENBEADY

April 14, 2017

I am Yorkshire, through and through. This place makes my heart sing. With gorgeous scenery from the Dales to the Moors, with vibrant, cosmopolitan cities such as Leeds & York. Even the lesser known beauties such as Ilkey Moor, Wakefield Sculpture Park and more. There is without a doubt something to tickle everyone’s fancy. Growing up we spent a lot of time in our caravan in a little place called, Sowerby which is just up the road from Bridlington. We’d spend days heading to Whitby, Filey and Flamborough Head and getting ice-cream drunk and eating fresh fish & chips. The simplicity of it all is exactly what I love about holidaying here in the UK!

As much as I love the coast, I also enjoy getting my walking boots and heading around the county for long dog walks. Some of my fave spots are Harewood House, a fantastic circular walk of about 7 miles, that certainly gets the heart pumping. Walking around the grounds of the Estate and taking in the countryside air is something I long for every weekend.

Why not check out this bumper posts of places to go around Yorkshire.

If I’m feeling indulgent and in a fun mood we will head up to the Dales. First, we will head to the Forbidden Corner. A labyrinth of excitement. What is described as a “Private Pleasure Garden” it was built during the Victorian Era in Tupgill Park and boasts a maze, moving floors and even the possibility of getting splashed. It’s a great day out for not just families, but the big kids like me! Alas, no trip to the Dales is complete without heading to Hawes and indulging at the Wensleydale Cheese Factory (my tummy rumbles just thinking about it!)

Bessies Yorkshire Preserves

My hometown of York offers boutique, designer and high street shopping. There is something for everyone and not only with the amazing shopping but the sights that come with it, from the towering, Gothic, York Minster to the Roman Walls that protect the city, it’s a city that holds plenty of beauty. And if you want to escape the city again, why not head to the North Yorkshire Moors and enjoy a trip on the infamous steam trains from Pickering which call in at Grosmont, Whitby and Levisham. You are in true heartbeat country here!
