October is a magical month I feel. You get the joy from the cosiness without it being dark when you leave and return from work which is a wonder in itself. I need to enjoy what this month brings before we are plunged in to darkness with the winter months. Oh & did I mention I’m an October baby? Just one more reason to love this beautiful month of the year. There’s so many reasons to love October.
1. CANDLES.
Candles, candles, candles, everywhere! I went a little bit crazy at Yankee Candle the other week and purchased a shit load of wax melts to make our house smell delicious and look super cosy.
2. NOT TOO DARKER NIGHTS. Okay so it is dark by about 7.30pm but I’m still able to leave the house and return from work in daylight which does wonders for my health. I try to make the most of the light nights before they disappear in to the darkness (literally.)
3. WASHING.
This is the most terribly “adulting” thing you will hear or read on this blog, but the crisp weather mixed with sunny days allows for me to hang out a weeks worth of washing on the line outside. Fresh linen is perfect and it makes me so happy.
4. THE COLOURS. A rather cliché anecdote of Autumn, but really, the colours are beautiful. The idea that leaves and flowers are allowing themselves to be reborn is pretty wonderful.
5. MA BIRTHDAY. I am the BDAY QUEEN. However, sadly this year I’ll be spending it heading home on a train from London. But, when I get home I want to get cosy and order a big takeaway and get snuggled up on the sofa with a Gilmore Girls marathon. (I mean what says Autumn/Fall more like watching Stars Hollow on the East Coast of America?)
6. NO GUILT. That’s right, no guilt when you are snuggled in your PJ’s on the sofa binge watching Netflix. It might be sunny but there’s a chill so you don’t feel too bad about not making the most of the weather outside.
7. CRISP AUTUMN WALKS. That being said (see number 6) there is nothing more refreshing than taking a nice walk in that ripe crispness that October brings. Wrap up warm in your thickest coats and take a break on the outside. (There’s nothing worse than a sweaty, summery walk!)
8. HALLOWEEN. I don’t have kids myself but I love getting in all the sugary sweets for the kids to come trick or treating at our home. The little ones are just so cute!
9. AUTUMN CLEAN. Everyone loves the big Spring Clean, but I find the opposite. I love a good Autumn clean. I find at this time of year you start to accumulate more stuff such as early Christmas presents purchases and of course BDAY presents 😉
What do you love about Autumn & more specifically October? I’d love to know.
