M&Co Blogger Christmas Party (19)

It’s inevitable that as a lover of fashion or a fashion blogger you will find yourself at a Fashion Festival or a Fashion Showcase. I’m yet to make my way to London Fashion Week but I have managed to bag myself invites to PR events for Fashion Brands. But, how can you make those moments leave a lasting impression where you can really make the most of it?

1. Introduce yourself to the members of the team. Be firm with your approach but be friendly. Try not to dither and look wary but also don’t be cocky. It sounds like a hard line to get that balance but just be you and be natural – first impressions count for a lot.

2. It’s not just about the people who run the events – it’s about your fellow bloggers too. I for one love the fact that blogging has given me shiny, new friends too. I wouldn’t have done that without putting myself out there and taking the time to get to know them. PR’s often ask for recommendations of new bloggers to work with and they will often speak to bloggers they have previously worked with for that reference.

3. Be seen but don’t do it looking stupid. The times I have rolled my eyes at the crazy outfits outside Somerset House each, it year fill me with absolute dread. It sounds harsh but I want to be remembered as someone who takes fashion & style a little more seriously. Carefully choose your outfits for the right reasons & you will make the right impression.

4. Take some sort of camera everywhere.  The right photo might just get you noticed. Keep perfecting your photography skills, you are always learning. It doesn’t matter if you get snap happy, you might just find that perfect photo in and amongst the 1500 you have just taken. It might create a buzz as well if you are being photographed!

5. Create a media kit and some business cards. You might be just hobbyist when it comes to your blog, but see it as a mini-business. If you can provide any of the two above to prospective brands and PR’s you are going to look a heck of lot more interesting to them. They might have something up their sleeve that they’d like to collaborate on, you just never know.

6. If you do end up writing a blog post about the Fashion Festival or Fashion Launch you have been to, make sure you get a business card or email from the person organising it so you can send them the link to it. This shows willing and will see you as organised and interested in the brand. Blog sharing is great & might just bag you another invitation or a collaboration in the future!

Overall, have fun and enjoy yourself. It’s a great privilege that bloggers are now being regarded as some of the greatest fashion influencers around – we should completely embrace that.
