PRETTY PANCAKES AT THE WILD PLUM, HARROGATE

Never has a place spoken to me on such a spiritual level. Okay, so that might be painfully over the top, however what I witnessed with both my taste buds and eyes at the Wild Plum would bring me closer to that truth. Having stalked the Wild Plum all over social media I had decided that it was time I’d get a piece of the pie pancake. With Mr C on a stag do, me and a girlfriend decided to make the short journey over to Harrogate to see what all the fuss was about….

Where to find The Wild Plum:

34-36 Hookstone Road
Harrogate, North Yorkshire
HG2 8BW

Located on the outskirts of Harrogate, you would be forgiven for not realising this place even existed. If you’re trying to find it, you’re best tapping “Snooty Frox” on google maps. You see, to get to this delightful café, you have to navigate and wind through a dress shop, up some creaky stairs and eventually you will happen upon the Wild Plum at the top of the stairs, on the left!

The brains behind this new venture, is the daughter of the owner of the dress shop. It seems cooking is part of the families’ history, with parents and grandparents before them taking up chef roles in their career. Beth has now added this place under her belt and it’s fast becoming the “IT place” to seen in having brunch these days.

Whilst it is a little out-of-the-way from the centre of town, it’s super easy to find and definitely worth a trip out-of-town to experience this place. To put it simply it is divine.

Are you craving pancakes yet?

WHAT TO HAVE?

Classic Pancakes
American style pancakes, served with seasonal fruit, whipped cream, nutella, maple syrup and roasted pecans – £12.50

It was a no-brainer for me. Pancakes all the way. I’d seen these legendary stacks of fluffy goodness all over Instagram and I wasn’t going to let this opportunity slide by without trying them.

A lot of places like this tend to be gimmicks, the food looks very pretty but there’s very little in terms of taste going on aside from that. But, let me tell you, these were something else!

This pile of pancakes had both style AND substance! Not only were the 3 pancakes, light & fluffy, the accompanying fruit and edible flowers made it not feel so “naughty” – it’s all about balance right?

The dish also came with three pots of toppings: Maple syrup, Nutella and Vanilla clotted cream. (Erm, yum!)

I drenched my pancakes with the Maple Syrup and took it in turns to dunk my fruit in the Nutella and Clotted Cream. By the end of it, it was so moreish that I just polished off the pots with a spoon. I could not get enough of it!

Everything was just so tasty, but crikey, there was a lot of it, I would say that the slightly higher prices are warranted by the extra large portions. Something I am very much here for! *raised hand emojis*

I think when I go back (and that is a when and not an “if”) I would like to try something savoury from the menu, because the table next to us ordered something with bacon, avo, and poached eggs which would have fulfilled all my millennial requirements in one fell swoop. Then, I’d finish it off with a portion of French toast bites.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE?

Our waitress was super friendly and to be honest, it felt like we knew her, I hope she enjoyed the concert she was going to that night!

Not only was the food good, the flat whites we ordered certainly hit the spot and woke us both up – Christ, we needed to after eating all that food.

So, the food tasted incredible. And okay, the prices are pretty steep for a weekend brunch compared to other places, but you really needn’t knock it on the head because of that, the food will surpass any of your wildest dreams – seriously! The pockets won’t feel so bad once you’ve tasted the food.

Don’t just take my word for it, the 5 star reviews on TripAdvisor might help sway you to try this place out too!
