MAKING SURE YOU HAVE THE BEST ROAD TRIP

This is a sponsored collaboration.

When taking a long journey by car, be it here in the UK or abroad, it is essential that you tick a few things off the list when it comes to making sure you have the best road trip! No matter what your intention is when you are driving but if your vehicle care is compromised, you are in for trouble later. No one wants to be stuck on the road with a heated up engine or a tyre burst. Yorkshire drivers have to be extra careful because when you take a route to travel, espeically with all the lovely pot holes we have to endure on the roads, they also get pretty congested and you don’t want to find yourself stranded at the side of the road instead of enjoying your road trip!

Follow these simple tips to ensure you have the best road trip…

HAVE A KILLER PLAYLIST

When you’re on the road, the scenery is pretty good to look at but everyone needs some tunes to sing along to when they’re going away. Despite me not having a voice of an angel, I do like to belt out a tune or two and that’s usually to Foals, Arctic Monkey’s, Marilyn Manson and I do love a bit of house music too. Who would be on your playlist?

CHECK YOUR TYRES & YOUR CAR’S ENGINE

If your tyres look old and there are cuts and bulges, it is probably not a good idea to continue to drive on them. It is advisable to consult a professional for new ones and you can buy new tyres in local areas of Yorkshire after doing some research. For example a good tyre garage inWakefield is Ossett Tyre House – you can book an appointment with them before heading for a road trip. Don’t forget that your tyres need to have the right kind of pressure before they are worthy of a drive. You can talk to a local garage for pressure inspection or determine the pressure at home. This will help you immensely and chances of a tyre burst will shrink dramatically. If you put a keen eye on the way your vehicle is behaving you can protect yourself and even enhance the life span of your car and tyres.

You should check your car’s engine and make sure there are no leakages anywhere. Fluid has to be on the optimum level and you need to make sure that car is functioning properly and that you can wipe those windows if they get muddy in the ever so British weather!

Finally, don’t forget to fill up the car with plenty of petrol for the journey (or charge it if you’re fancy like that!)

GOOD CAR SNACKS

One thing I love about road trips is that it seems socially acceptable to eat my favourite cheddar and bacon sausage rolls from M&S at 9am in the morning. Getting a good selection of car snacks is pivotal for making sure you have a smooth journey. No-one likes getting hangry or being the receiving end of hanger so make sure you’re fully stocked on the essentials. Big bags of crisps, snack pots and a gallon of diet coke (for me) will see you through some of the toughest times!

PLAN YOUR STOPS

Motorway services can be pretty grim at the best of times, but they are getting better. There are various rankings of a motorway service that are now upheld, why not ask twitter or Instagram where people’s fave services are! (I even saw that someone loved a service station that much, her friends organised a party there for her?!) Another great idea is to get hold of this Extra Mile book. I love it because it gives you alternative places to stop off instead of the usual pit stops!

PACK BLANKETS

I would definitely suggest packing a big blanket or two if you are going on a very long journey – especially if it is in winter! You never quite know when you’ll need it. Plus it’s quite cosy for the passenger if you need to nod off for half an hour!
