Hedonist Project: Rum Shack, Leeds | QueenBeady

Hedonist Project Leeds Rum Shack 7

I’m just going to put it out there, it’s a bold statement but imma right on say it. Leeds is the food & drink capital. Yep, there I said it. Now, hear me out on this one. The wave of the ”pop up” bar & restaurant is fast becoming the ”in thing” but in Leeds I feel like we are getting some amazing new joints that have actually come on to be full-time, permanent spots because they went down so well during their short but sweet stints. The latest bar to hit New Briggate is Rum Shack. A quirky little hole. It’s unfinished and bare, but what it lacks in ”unpolished finishedness” is a bucket load of personality. Part of The Hedonist Project, you know you’re not going to be disappointed.

I felt like I had flown right in to Kingston, Jamaica and was sipping rum punch in a local bar on the road side. The authenticity of how they had styled the place, along with the rather intoxicating liquor it certainly felt like I was in a far-flung destination. Especially with the rather scorching temperatures we had experienced that day.

The cute thing about it too was that you felt like you would’ve walked out of the door and stepped on to a Caribbean beach, without a doubt, one of the most atmospheric bars I have been to. The vibe was just pretty sweet, along with the super attentive staff who were happy enough to keep replenishing you with their sweet beverages when you ran out.

It’s only a small little spot, but that’s okay. Get yourself sat outside on a deck chair or perched on one of the long tresses style tables and chairs and you will do just fine. The laid back atmosphere is enough to put anyone at ease. Now as there was a lot, and I mean a lot of rum punch on offer I didn’t manage to make my way through any of the other cocktails, but the lovely Sammie from Lil Blonde Life let me have a sip of her Pina Colada and it was refreshingly tasty, which I didn’t expect from one of the smoother cocktails. If you wanted to try their small but wonderfully tasty drinks they were around the £6 mark – which is pretty reasonable for a well made, and plentiful alcoholic drink in the city centre. If you aren’t a big drinker there were some NA drinks too, from as little as £2.50 so alas, everyone is catered for!

I was joined by some of my most favourite people too, Laura from AForteForFashion & I finally got to meet Gabby from What She Buys – these girls are an absolute dream. I’m pretty sure we would’ve stayed up all night drinking and talking to one another about goodness knows what, but we really had a hoot! I briefly got to speak to Rhianna & Lozzy too, but time soon ran away with me and like Cinderella I would have turned in to a pumpkin if I hadn’t caught the next bus. Having been up from 6am at the Boohoo #ThisGirlCan photo shoot I was pretty maxed out (more on that to come soon!) – my bed was calling.

Of course the evening would not have been complete without a selfie of us all enjoying ourselves, using my very own (brand new and very clever) selfie stick!

Are you going to try this place soon? If you are looking for somewhere to go tonight, then this is the place to go for quirky vibe. Be quick because it’s only here for 12 weeks & you don’t want to miss out on this amazing, quaint little spot!
