Do you want to go to the Seaside? | QueenBeady

I’m not try’na sav that everybody wants to go. I fell in love at the seaside, the seaside.

Oh, the Seaside. One of my favourite places to be. The sights of the blue ocean, the sounds of waves lapping against the shore and the seagulls squarking, to the smells of fish and chips and the real proper doughnuts you can get. There is nothing quite like it and wish I could be nearer to the coast (or alternatively another beach destination? I’m not fussy, Kefalonia, Italy, I’ll take it.) So when we took an impromptu trip to the Yorkshire Coast a couple of Saturday’s ago I was a giddy, little kipper.

We had Skye, our dog, who isn’t the best on long journey’s so we set up a little bed in the footwell so she could be near us. When she’s in her pen in the boot she does nothing but whine (talk about clingy!) So we got her settled and so she could have a quick peek up when we went through all the pretty little villages. She’s such a nosy parker! We set off around 2pm and reached Bridlington South Beach around 3.15pm but the parking situtation was pretty horrendous and our usual car park had been turned in to a Park & Ride so we headed 4 miles out of town to a long stretch of beach called Fraisthorpe. In all my childhood years I can’t say I ever remember visiting this beach.

It was like a little trip down memory lane for me. Many summer holidays were spent in & around Brid. We had a static caravan on a site in Sewerby so seeing all the places on the drive prompted lots “oh my goodness that’s changed!” or “I remember when…” – I think my husband heard about a million stories that day but all in good spirit.

It’s very rare that we do anything off the cuff. Everything seems to be pre-planned or jam packed with jobs that we don’t ever do anything on a whim. And whilst it’s great to know that we are never bored it never leaves room to do things spur of the moment so I relished in the fact that we had just filled the car up and drove off without any masses of forward planning. It’s also normally a big no-no taking Skye anywhere for too long either because of the horrific journey’s we have to endure sometimes.

The beach was pretty clear compared to what we could see of Bridlington Beach, most were dog walkers, but not overrun with them. We just walked and walked taking in the fresh sea air for a good hour or so, taking the occasional dip in the (very cold!) north sea. It was so good to just get out of the house and out of routine we have been so accustomed to. We finished off our little trip with a portion of fish and chips each looking out to sea on Sewerby Cliff, of course I shared mine with Skye. I couldn’t resist those puppy dog eyes looking at me. Once finished we set back off home and we took the scenic route home (unknowingly!) and we giggled and laughed all the way home, chatting away. It just felt wonderful.

Do you ever feel you need to break the routine? Or do something sporadic that you wouldn’t normally do?
