Go Ape, Dalby Forest with SimplyHealthUK | QueenBeady

April 24, 2016

?????????????????????????????????????????

If like me you like a good challenge, then Go Ape is definitely something you need to tackle one weekend. SimplyHealth UK got in touch with me to see if I was ready for that challenge. My immediate answer was of course a big, fat YES! Having been to Go Ape last July, James & I had already decided that we would be heading back again the following year because we enjoyed it so much. Only this time SimplyHealth UK wanted to provide me with a Fitbit Flex to track my activity on the day.

The day started off wonderfully, blue skies and sunshine, it couldn’t have looked more perfect during our induction with the Go Ape team (who I have to say are brilliant!) Because you are a good thirty or forty feet off the ground it’s vital that you listen to every word they say and completely absorb the information because otherwise you might find yourself tumbling from the tree’s. The safety of their guests is paramount, and unfortunately like a couple of people behind us kept forgetting to stay clipped at all times so were taken off the course before they got to more extreme areas. You are then strapped up, complete with a whistle in case of an emergency, and you can make your way to zone 1.

No sooner had we got on the course after about half an hour, it started to rain and my gosh did it pour! Not only that, it started to hail and snow, making the course pretty slippy (and quite scary if I am to admit it!) but ever the enthusiasts for being outdoors we kept on going, plodding through trials and tribulations of the course. We weren’t to be deterred.

There are six sections of the Dalby Forest course. You can choose from the easy or hard route, I went for easy as the wet course made me a little nervous and Mr C went for the difficult one, of course he absolutely boshed it (when doesn’t he?!) and at the end of each section there’s is an exhilarating zip line to put the wind in your sails and take you to the next zone! I have to say the zip lines are the most exciting bit (plus you get to sit down after all your hard work climbing tree’s!)

Now, obviously I ended up going down the zip line backwards meaning my back was covered top to toe in mud & bark but it was all in good spirit. I just needed to make sure that my clothes went on a very deep wash once I got home. Somehow (as always!) Mr C managed to land forward every single time the cheeky little blighter.

After a good two and a half hours we had finally taken the final zip wire and reached the end. 7337 steps later and we had both conquered it. I was pretty pleased with myself (if you couldn’t tell by the big, cheeky grin on my face.) We each got a little certificate to acknowledge our achievement – who doesn’t love a good certificate? Ever since I received the Fitbit from Simplyhealth UK I have not taken it off. It’s really pushing me to keep active and take my health a lot more seriously. You get one chance at it, so you have to do a good job of it. I’d like to thank Simplyhealth UK for providing me with our day out to test out the Fitbit.

Do you have a Fitbit & do you find it motivates you more? Do you have health insurance or is it something you’ve never thought of? I’d love to know in the comments below.
