AM I ADULTING #2 | QUEENBEADY

Okay, the answer to the above question would be a resounding no after Saturday night. When you are simultaneously throwing up next to your husband, one in the sink, one in the loo; you start to re-assess, is it really worth drinking? Since August we have had plans pretty much every single weekend and they always involve alcohol. I am tired. Tired of drinking in excess. It’s nothing to be proud of and I have really taken a step back and decided that I’m going to try and be t-total (or more like, limit myself to 1 or 2 drinks.) As I laid around on Sunday morning feeling sorry for myself, running to the toilet every five minutes to throw up last nights stagioni pizza (olives, prawns, things that generally do not want to agree with you at the best of times) I sat there and questioned…

“WHY THE FUCK DO I DO THIS?”

When I was about 14, I thought I was terribly cool when drinking Cherry Lambrini (tbf it’s a pretty sexy little drink) by the river. It was what we did, then we managed to start getting served in a local pub (keeping warm was a novelty and doing it underage felt even more cool. Anyone under 18, don’t do this) and then when I was finally of an age, I could start drinking posh drinks, G&T’s (don’t tell me you don’t feel like you’re adulting when you order one of those, am I right?) and then we reach the present day, where one too many G&T’s makes you feel like death crawled inside you and wanted to break free from every orifice. That fricking deathly.

I ended up ordering two lots of G&T’s each. Quick, down them before the taxi gets here (that didn’t even turn up so we drank more). Oh go on, let’s have another one. And another one turns into another ten. Okay, maybe tens a little excessive – but you get my point. When will I ever learn to just put a line under it and say “no.” You’d think by now, at the age of 27, I’d know what my limits are. Apparently not.

In all honesty, I’ve never been one for drinking at home on weeknights, now that is adulting. Instead I just go on a massive bender to the point my eyes roll back in to my head. FYI, this not a good look. Trust me. So I’ve decided, that from now & until Christmas day I’m going to (try) not sip any alcohol. We have no concrete plans in the next coming weeks (or so I am led to believe) which will make this a little bit easier. I’ve made a pre-new years resolution. Either that or I need to buck my ideas up and learn when I need to stop.

Whilst I hope my wild days are over for the foreseeable, (after weddings, birthdays and parties through 2016) if you feel you need help with any issues you might have with alcohol, visit Drink Aware for any advice or help you may require. There’s a friendly person at the end of the phone who will want to help you.
