I’m sorry to be so crass in the opening title of this post, but I think it really needed to be written just so I follow through on this post. I also think I need to apologise for the amount of blog posts that start with “The Importance Of…” and then I end up going off on some sort of wild tangent, but I’ll let it slide because it makes for a good blog post. It’s just in my latter twenties (eurgh – that sounds so scary to say) I’m starting to realise so much about myself and my daily surroundings, and now that I’ve started to accept it I’ve found that my anxiety is actually starting to calm down.

My brain is now mentally taking its own “woo-saa” approach to life and it’s never been so clear that there’s a huge importance to letting shit go…

THE IMPORTANCE OF LETTING SHIT GO

1. WHAT SUSIE SAYS OF SALLY, SAYS MORE ABOUT SUSIE THAN SALLY
I wrote a post here about how someone else’s opinion or vile actions against you can’t always be a reflection on you. In fact, it’s very much the opposite and is more of a reflection on themselves. People can often cut away at people’s looks, personality, integrity and so forth when they are not happy with themselves so they project their own insecurities on to you. I’ve learnt (the hard way) that this is something for them to deal with, rather than me. Having being on the receiving end of this it’s now become…

2. …WATER OFF A DUCK’S BACK
That lead nicely in to point two, didn’t it. I take constructive criticism on board and will always accept it with open arms if I’ve not done a good job with something, but when someone becomes overly critical, it starts to wear a little thin. Bless the Queen that is Jinx Monsoon from S5 of Ru Paul’s Drag Race, because the term “water off a duck’s back” has firmly reminded me that I’m not perfect and sometimes you have just got to accept that. Let it go over your head and move on and…

3. DO AS BEST AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN
I seem to be leading in to each point quite well here. The biggest thing I’ve realised is that you should always try, hand on heart, to do the best you can possibly do, treat people with respect and go about your business without harming anything or anyone then, be safe in the knowledge that you have done everything in your power to be a good person. Your one rule in life should be, “don’t be a dick.”

4. THERE’S NO POINT CRYING OVER SPILT MILK
The tears I have cried over people who have hurt me in the past. The anxiety that would riddle me for days, weeks, even months worrying about things that were beyond my control can be counted in tenfold. And, to some extent I do still wind myself up still with things that should have no bearing over me, but can. However, if something really does not concern me, I’m starting to become a little more chilled out about it. And, whilst it is hard at first, once you get in to the mentality of it, it definitely helps!

and finally…

5. YOU WILL BE MUCH HEALTHIER
My mental health has seen some lows, but only now am I starting to realise just how much worrying or getting angry over stuff I can’t control was starting to affect me. I’m not as moody as I used to be, I’m not holding grudges like I used to and generally speaking I’m more confident because I don’t let people’s words or actions hurt me anymore.

In all honesty, there’s no magic formula to letting go of pent-up anger. And, with age comes wisdom and that’s how I’ve really come to learn and understand myself a little better as the years go by. I do hope that whoever reads my nonsense can apply this to their current situation.

Let me know if you have any tips in the comments.
