MY TOP 5 TRAVEL MOMENTS OF ALL TIME

Having the opportunity to travel is an absolute blessing and with every trip I take I thank my lucky stars that I’m fortunate enough to be able to travel the globe as much as I do. And with each trip comes some amazing memories, but there’s certain ones that will always stick out in my mind as being right up there as my top 5 travel moments of all time!

SWIMMING WITH WILD DOLPHINS IN EGYPT

One thing I will never forget and will stay with me forever is the time we went on a boat & snorkelling trip from our hotel in Makadi Bay, Egypt, Not only did we experience some of the most beautiful aquatic life in the corals, but we also got to swim with wild dolphins.

I’m not afraid to say that I had a tear in my eye as the boat gently sailed along next to them as the dived in and out of the sea. When we were asked if we wanted to get in and have a swim with them, there was nothing that was going to stop me (despite not being a very confident swimmer and floating in the middle of the Red Sea after a shark pandemic that was ravaging Egypt at the time!)

Honestly, to this day it is something that I still tell people about and will probably tell my children, and my grand children and anybody else who will listen to me.

The beauty of the experience was that we got to do it with dolphins that weren’t in captivity or performing like monkeys in a tank, these were real life, in the flesh, wild dolphins that chose to meet us in the depths of the waters. The most magical moment I’ll ever experience!

VISITING CHICHEN ITZA IN MEXICO

If I told you that Chichen Itza was the most fascinating place I have ever been, I wouldn’t be lying!

This piece of history has so many stories to tell that I really don’t want to give too much away if you are travelling there soon, but let me tell you that so many stories and tales of how emeralds came to be found in the one of the pyramids, to the way the Mayans built building hundreds of yards apart but could still converse with one another at each end without shouting to the famous winter and summer solstice snake shadows. All I can say is that; it will truly blow your mind.

My advice would be to take a trip that sets off early in the morning. We set off at 6am as it is quite a drive from the Caribbean coast of Mexico, such as the Riviera Maya & Cancun, but it is so worth it because you beat most of the crowds and you arrive before it gets too hot. And, when I say there is no shade, there really is no shade! We booked our trip through TUI to guarantee the early entrance and or tour guide was so unbelievably knowledgeable which made the whole trip even more interesting.

As one of the wonders of the world, this is a bucket list trip that just have to take if you find yourself flying to Mexico. In fact, I implore you to go.

DRIVING THE WINDING ROADS OF THE AMALFI COAST ON OUR HONEYMOON

Of course, the Amalfi Coast will always be, 100% THAT HOLIDAY that I will never, ever forget. Because it was our honeymoon in the summer of 2014 when we said our I do’s on one very mixed weather day in June, we jetted off 48 hours later to the Med where we would do a hell of a lot of sightseeing, finding out we actually prefer being on the beach by the pool and eating a lot of food and drinking a lot of prosecco.

A highlight for me would have to be the day we explored the Amalfi Coast. We travelled round on one of the big red bus tours, hopping on and off where we felt fit and where the timetable allowed. We of course went to Positano and got “that shot” and we wandered around the beautful outdoor shops, with canopies of fauna hanging above us to shade us from the hot, summer sun.

We then jumped back on and made our way to Amalfi itself and grabbed a bite to eat and a beer each before once again meandering the winding, medieval streets.

The views around this rugged coastline meet the azure blue seas is quite something to behold. I really wish I had my DSLR camera at this point in life, but alas, I didn’t but least I do have some beautiful photos and memories of this trip because it will always be special to us.

WALKING DOWN MAINSTREET USA, DISNEYLAND

This is going to sound very corny but who cares, I’m a self-confessed Disneyland lover and having been about 6 times, this place never fails to make me smile. The moment you walk through the gates, underneath the Disneyland Hotel and enter the theme park, it’s almost as it suddenly life just stops being so scary. Even if it is just for a few hours our a couple of days.

As I type this blog post and thinking of all the amazing times I’ve spent at Disney, the faint scent of vanilla fudge gently wafts up my nose – just like it has come straight from the confectionary shop on Main Street!

I think for me this place has always been an escape, from bullies at school, the bullies at work to get away from a negative head space and just be greeted with a smiley face after smiley face. Every time I pop on those Magic Minnie ears I’m transported to a happier time.

OUR FIRST EVER HOLIDAY TOGETHER TO CORNWALL

The year was 2007 (yes, I’m aware that we look like babies in the above photo!) and they say your first holiday is a make or break situation. You either sink or swim. Thank god we swam and surfed and well, any other s’s you want to add to that on that holiday!

We were 17 and 18 and we even had to get a written letter to send to the accommodation that our parents were happy for us to be travelling together and alone 6 hours away from home.

We decided not to go abroad for our first holiday but instead stay on home turf and take the long and arduous trip down to Newquay! For 5 nights we learnt to surf on Fistral Beach, saw seals in the harbour and got to know each other a little better after 6 months of being together. Was it going to go the distance.

Luckily it did and we are now happily married and 12 years later we make lots of new holiday memories, including ones here in the UK still!

Has this post got you feeling nostalgic? What are your favourite travel memories?
