5 Travel Destinations I Fell in Love With | QueenBeady

January 3, 2016

QueenBeady Red Sea

Travel has always been a huge part of my life, from the ages of 17 – 24 I was a travel agent which meant I had access to a lot of travel deals and amazing holiday bargains that sometimes I found a little too hard to ignore. I thought seen as I haven’t documented a lot of my travel pre this blog, that I would share 5 of my top experiences and travel destinations with you.

1. Swimming with wild dolphins in the Red Sea, Egypt

For me this is a big one. I’m not the world’s most confident swimmer. In fact, I’m pretty scared. So to get in to the open waters of the Red Sea just off the coast of Makadi Bay was a huge deal for me. What made it even sweeter was that on our boat trip we got to swim with wild dolphins. It was perfect in every way you could ever imagine. This is coming from the little girl who by her own admission sponsored various dolphins in the Morray Firth from a very young age. It was exhilarating to have these beautiful mammals swimming between our legs, darting from one person to another. I genuinely had tears in my eyes. It’s something that, despite my terrible memory, with always remember.

2. Our Honeymoon to Sorrento, Italy

Sorrento

For me Sorrento, Italy will always have a special place in my heart. It is where James & I went on our 1o night honeymoon. It was the first holiday we had been on where 50% of the time it rained like no other but the other 50% was the most beautiful weather we have ever encountered. Your honeymoon is meant to be spent in the hotel bedroom for the majority of your week away, however, somewhere like Italy is not the place you can do that. There was so much to see and do, we travelled all over. Our favourite area was the Amalfi Coast – it’s landscape so rugged and beautiful. We went to Pompeii, Capri and travelled around the beautiful centre of Sorrento. I don’t think I could have wished for a more romantic honeymoon had we tried. You can read all about our special holiday by searching Snapshots of Sorrento on the blog search bar.

3. Kefalonia, Greece

Kefalonia

There’s no big reason why this Greek Island hits the top of my list. Other than the fact it’s one of the most beautiful Greek Islands I have ever been to. I am huge fan of the Ionian Islands, they are so lush and green compared to their Dodecanese counterparts that are very baron! I think the reason we fell in love with both Italy & Kefalonia is because there is a huge correlation of their history. The Romans settled on some of the Ionian Islands which gave them a real Italian flare. The cobbled streets and winding roads make everywhere so much fun to explore. We always hire a quad so we can explore! I can’t wait to head back to Greece soon.

4. Amsterdam, The Netherlands

IAMSTERDAM

I could not write a post without including Amsterdam. Yes, I’ve bored you to death with my recent posts about the place but there truly is so much to this quaint city. The kind people, the beautiful canals edging their way through the city (more canals than Venice!), the tall building that are always such a delight to look up at. Everywhere is so “instagrammable” and it’s a really relaxed environment that I never want to come home. I think because it’s where Mr C & I had our first ever “abroad” holiday that it holds such a big place in our heart and with 5 trips under our belt I don’t think we will get bored of it anytime soon. My biggest hint/tip is get to the Museumns earlyish such as Anne Frank or the Van Gogh Museum or late in the afternoon when the crowds have subsided! You’ll thank me later!

5. Chichen Itza, Mexico

Last but not least I could not leave out Mexico. I have done various posts about it and The Riviera Maya was absolutely beautiful. However, getting to see one of the Seven Wonders of the World was absolutely incredible. The history and background was a complete mind-fuck and you would not believe how on earth Mayans did what they did! You can read my full blog post where I garble all about it. It’s a bucket list experience that I have finally ticked off my list and I can’t wait to have many more adventures like that!

I’m hoping that I can share more of my previous travel experiences with you soon, looking back on old photos brings back a lot of happy memories. I’m the happiest I can be when I’m on holiday and that escapism is what I look for when I’m abroad. Learning about a travel destinations history and culture is something I thrive off and I hope when you travel you do this too.

Where are have you been that you experienced something amazing or mind-blowing? Where should I add to my travel bucket list next? I’d love to hear from you!
