Mindfulness Monday #2 | QueenBeady

January 18, 2016

Glass Jars

I hate to sound smug and be that guy, but this whole “mindfulness” thing is working out for me. Never have I felt so “in the now” and enjoying each day. I have hardly thought about the weekend (and we had a jam packed weekend away to look forward to!) that I actually feel like each day really is bringing me something meaningful, despite having to get up for work each day. I was so skeptical of how it would work for me, but it genuinely has made me feel wonderful. I read Sophie’s blog about “self diagnosing anxiety” – I am the same, and whilst I’ve never been to the docs about it, I know hand on heart it is something I have and do have to deal with on a daily basis. The moment my chest tightens and I struggle to take controlled breaths because of one quick, irrational thought I’d feel sick. Now, I take a moment, breath in and out and really concentrate on a positive thought. I can’t tell you how much that has helped me.

1. My New Diet
James bought a pair of Salter scales last weekend. I stepped on them. I was horrified. I had put on the largest amount of weight I ever have and was at my heaviest. I quickly realised that I had to do something about it. We headed to Aldi and within the hour the fridge was filled with every sort of green, vegetable and fruit you could imagine. I also started walking to work again, it’s a good half an hour journey but just by doing that, I’m adding quite a few more thousand steps to what I was doing pre-Christmas. Within the first few days I have lost 4lbs which is a huge loss & I was so happy to see the scales go down. I’ve always said that a number does not define me, but I was unhappy so I took steps to make sure I was.

2. Quitting Diet Coke
Diet Coke is my vice. My one true love in drink form. It got me through days at work where I had paperwork coming out of my ears to the afternoon lull. I drunk a minimum of 2 cans a day. It kind of links back to point 1, about how I’ve changed my diet but I felt this warranted it’s own section because coming off this shit, is real hard. I mean mega hard. They say it take a minimum of 66 days to break free of a habit or addiction. I’m not craving one as much as I thought I would, Tuesday was my hardest day, it was my second full day without it. I could feel I was getting cranky, but everytime I wanted to reach for one or lash out I quickly grabbed myself a glass of water to keep it at bay. There’s still work to be done as yes, writing this I am licking my lips thinking of a freezing cold can of coke slowly making it’s way down my throat but,  I’m slowly getting there.

Making A Murdered

3. Making a Murderer
We succumbed to it. We started the series last week and have watched two episodes a night and it’s had us gripped from the start. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions and you are so drawn in by the whole back story to it. We’ve got one or two episodes left which are now focussing on the Brendan Dassey trial and it really makes me sad. I don’t know if googling about Steven Avery’s case has had me swaying from each side of the fence. I won’t give anything away to those who are yet to watch it but all I can say is do watch it.

Hotel La Tour

4. A Trip to Hotel La Tour, Birmingham
We have just got home after a 2 hour car journey from our weekend to Birmingham. We stayed at a gorgeous hotel (in fact, I looked on Insta and Craig David had been there just the week before? Crazy!) Everything was extremely plush in the rooms. There will be a blog post to this week so I won’t give too much away!

5. Another Wedding
Off the back our best friends getting engaged last week, our other friends have finally set a date for their wedding. I’m so looking forward to being a bridesmaid and getting involved planning the hen do and everything in between. It’s such a wonderful time, especially for the Bride to Be. I want to make it that she feels extremely spoilt and loved as you only do it once.

FiveGuys

6. I lost my Five Guys V’s
Yep, I have finally tasted my very first Five Guy’s burger and my god was it delicious. I went for a “little bacon cheeseburger” topped with jalepenos and onions, along with some salted fries (although I ended up being super jealous of Mr C’s Cajun fries!) I was in a burger coma for the rest of the day because it was just that good. Thank god there is one in Leeds so we can go again soon! What’s your favourite burger combo?

7. I made a LinkedIn account for my Blog
I already have a personal, professional one but decided it was time to create one for my blog on a separate note as I like to keep the two things detached from one another. I know I will never be a super blogger, but, I know hand on heart that I could really give it a go at being more of a profession for myself. So I need to start taking it a little more seriously to see what opportunities there are out there. That doesn’t mean anything else will be any different around here but it’s always great to explore your opportunities.

ASOS Black Dress

8. I wore this little ASOS number
And I felt a million dollars. I posted it on my Instagram account and you flocked in asking where it was from. It was an £8 bargain from ASOS and it’s the first tight dress I have worn in a long time that I felt actually flattered me. Being at my heaviest is not an easy pill to swallow so when lovely compliments come in about things I’m wearing my confidence is knocked up a few notches & I must admit, I’ve needed that recently. So, thank you.

This week has overall been pretty good! A couple of things put the spanner in the works with who will be looking after our dog in March when we go to Madeira, but, we rolled our socks up and tried to sort it as best as we could and I came out in massive ulcers on my tongue from the stress. (Our dog is an awkward little buggar when left at home along for those who do not know me!) But, other than that the week rolled on by.

Have you had a good week? What have you been up to? Are you practising Mindfulness at the moment? It would be great to hear some hints and tips if you are!
