HOW TO LOOK AFTER YOUR HAIR WHEN TRAVELLING* | QUEENBEADY

If there’s one thing blonde hair has taught me, is that it really needs looking after and whilst I do my best to make sure it looks & feels healthy, sometimes my routine can’t always accommodate long, luxurious hair treatments. It got me thinking about how to look after your hair when travelling! It’s not only your skin you have to look after but also your hair too. With travelling abroad a lot I find my locks needs much more nourishment because of the over exposure from the (glorious) UVA & UVB sunshine rays that we find when heading to far flung destinations. So, I have found some quick and easy ways with Percy & Reed to make sure my mane doesn’t become too sun damaged whilst I’m lying on a deckchair!

Since going blonde my hair has become even knottier than what it did before. I’ve found that thoroughly brushing my hair with a tangle teezer or a wide toothed comb and then plaiting it before heading to the beach or pool helps keep those pesky knots at bay. This stops me from shedding lots of hair whilst trying to de-tangle loose locks as well!

I find that using a moisturising shampoo and conditioner set stops my hair from drying out too quickly. This travel set from Percy & Reed is the perfect selection of products to treat yourself to whilst heading on your jollies. Not only are they great for protection, they smell gorgeous too! And, if you do find yourself in a pickle, the Perfectly Perfecting Treatment Oil is a great solution to getting your shiny & silky hair back. The use of Camellia Seed Oil restores moisture and protects the damaged hair, with the Macadamia Seed Oil penetrating the scalp (because we need to look after that too!) and for the hair it gives it that strength and elasticity. Last but not least the vitamin-rich Carrot Seed Oil is used to rejuvenate and regenerate leaving you with luscious locks!

One of my all-time favourite products to use is the Wonder Balm. This fabulous leave-in treatment is perfect for applying to damp, towel dried hair whilst on holiday. Especially when I want to use minimal heat products on it! It’s perfect for the heat as well because it helps reduce frizz for up to 72 hours, and for someone like me who has frizzy / fly-away hair, it’s a great way to tame it with the least amount of effort!

My sister & I were discussing just how much we love these products – they really do leave your hair feeling light, smooth and so easy to manage!

I try an avoid washing my hair every day on holiday, mainly the days where I’ve not been in the pool or sea, it’s not good when you’re at home so it’s definitely not great when you’re out in the foreign sun all day. Wash it every few days using the Percy & Reed shampoo and always follow with a conditioner to get through those knots. It’s also the same with blow drying it and using heat products, unless I’m in a desperate rush I will always try and towel dry my hair and let it dry naturally. But, if you do use hairdryers or straighteners, make sure you get some heat protection spray!

Before I go away I always try and book a hair appointment for a trim. You’ll find that the damage from the UVA & UVB rays can cause your hair to become limp and lifeless, but also you’re at risk of getting split ends from it too. By having a good cut before you travel reduces the risk of this happening.

And, for the giggles I found this incredibly amusing treatment that I might try do when I’m feeling adventurous! Because eggs are highly rich in protein they help to recover damaged hair so you’ll need to raid the egg box for this one. You will need to mix ¼ cup of plain yoghurt, ¼ cup of mayonnaise and 1 egg white and distribute it evenly in your hair. You then leave the mixture on your hair for 30 minutes and finally rinse thoroughly with water. And voila, fingers crossed your own homemade hair treatment gives you mermaid locks once again!

Have you any handy hints or tips to keep your hair looking fresh whilst on holiday? I’d love to know!
