Top Places to Visit for a 2020 Staycation

AD This is a collaborative post – Top Places to Visit for a 2020 Staycation

With the busy festive period finished and packed up for another year, it’s time to start thinking about your 2020 holiday. Whether you’re looking for a beach side break, a trip that is steeped in history or even a foodie-focussed holiday, there are plenty of amazing places to visit across the UK. Here are just some destinations that are on my bucket list in and around the UK for that perfect 2020 staycation.

Dorset

The stunning Dorset coastline and glorious beaches are much more than just a relaxing summer destination. The UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast makes Dorset a hotspot all year round. With plenty to do from fossil hunting, coastal walks, to visiting stately homes and castles, there really is something for everyone to get stuck in to.

Plus, after a long day out exploring, what could be better than cosying up in front of a log burner in a traditional coastal cottage? Dorset Holiday Cottages from Lyme Bay Holidays are perfect for those wanting the full local experience and a getaway in a stunning self-catering cottage. That sounds like my ideal kind of weekend, wouldn’t you agree?

The Lake District

I will never tire of visiting the Lake District, in fact it’s somewhere we travel to in the UK on a frequent basis!

If you’re looking for the perfect hiking spot, the Lake District could be the ideal place for you. With spectacular mountains, forests, and of course lakes, it really is a natural beauty with something for everyone.

There are plenty of amazing towns to stop off at along your hike including the charming towns of Keswick and Windemere, which are loved dearly by tourists. Pack your raincoat though, because throughout the year the Lake District is well known for its rain showers! If you’re looking for better weather, try heading there in July.

Highlands

Having never been to Scotland and taking in to account my love for the outdoors I’m not quite sure how we haven’t made it here yet?

Scotland has some of the most impressive landscapes across the UK, it is a destination steeped in history and includes vast amounts of wildlife. If you’re looking for an adventurous trip up North, then the Highlands could be for the likes of you & I.

To make the most of your trip, research some of the many islands you can visit and where to catch the boats from! There is so much to see so take your map and camera and head out to explore. I recommend visiting for more than just an overnight break though, to make the most of the highlands.

London

With a stay in May to look forward to, London is one of those places that I can hack for a weekend and then I’m very happy to head back to Yorkshire but it’s still one of the most exciting places to visit in the UK. For those looking for an increase in pace, then London is a brilliant spot for a staycation.

With endless restaurants, bars, theatres, attractions and famous landmarks to explore, it’s packed with culture. Why not research some of the many quirky places to stay and hidden gems across the city to really make the most of your trip.

Before travelling to London it’s worth having some form of plan for the things you may want to see and experience, as each corner is packed with things to do so you can easily get distracted and find yourself tiring after a lot of walking!

North Wales

If you’re looking to venture to North Wales for the first time, there are some fantastic must-see destinations.

A stunning seaside gem in North Wales, Llandudno is a brilliant place to visit for a family waterfront getaway. The long promenade and Victorian architecture make this seaside town quite the destination! Its popular beaches, ample shops and restaurants, make Llandudno the perfect place for a fun family staycation.

Alternatively, for the more adventurous, you could take a trip to Snowdonia and explore this stunning National Park. With so many amazing activities from mountain biking to zip lining, this is definitely a place for the adrenaline focussed! Or even hop across the Menai Bridge to the gorgeous island of Anglesea – one of my fave places to visit in the summer.

So, there you have it, some fantastic destinations across the UK which would make excellent holidays for 2020, so go out and explore! Do you think you’ll be visiting any of these soon?
