A Luxury, Family Staycation at Cabin Walk at Newton Hall, Northumberland Review

If you’re looking for a luxury, family friendly accommodation that is both quirky and functional then you need look any further than Cabin Walk at Newton Hall in Newton by the Sea, Northumberland.

A pretty bold statement I know but there was something pretty special about this spot, right on the Northumbrian Coast.

We managed to pick up a fab deal for 2 nights in June to celebrate our 9th Wedding Anniversary (with a tiny little gatecrasher in tow!) Our budget could only stretch to the cosy garden room but sadly we would not have fit a travel cot in that room. With some stroke of luck we managed to get an amazing deal on the family garden room with hot tub which turned out perfect for our little getaway.

The family garden rooms come with their own terrace and hot tub & it takes log cabin holidays to the next level.

Once Madeleine was fast asleep in the travel cot that was kindly provided by Newton Hall (just remember to bring your own mattress for babies own comfort!), James & I could sink in to the wooden hot tub outside with a glass of bubbles that the hotel had kindly left in our room to celebrate our anniversary with! (Always remember to let where you are staying know if you are there for a special occasion – read all about how to get luxury for less here!)

The team had set the hot tub at the perfect temperature. It was the perfect spot to unwind after a day of parenting, it’s very rare we get to relax these days so having the hot tub & terrace area was something we never knew we really needed until we got to experience it. Plus, it meant we didn’t have to tip toe around Madeleine whilst she slept.

The rooms themselves are huge. The design is very Wes Anderson-esque (#accidentallywesanderson), there was clearly some very careful consideration with the interiors when designing the cabins. From the eccentric headboard above the king sized bed, to the pink and gold sink in the bathroom and even the bold wallpapered ceiling, we finally found somewhere that realises families are still looking for stylish, functional trips away!

The beauty of the family rooms is that there is a mini kitchen, complete with fridge freezer, microwave grill, kettle & coffee machine. That meant making Madeleine’s bottles and food was so much easier. Again, the kitchen was super stylish & there was also a big dining table with 4 chairs if you wanted to eat in as well.

If you have older children the rooms also have a set of bunk beds, too.

There are two things I really test hotels on – the quality of the bath products and the standard of the bed. Both really delivered at Cabin Walk at Newton Hall.

Not only did they have Noble Isle products which are my absolute favourite, I also sank in to one of the comfiest beds ever (despite Madeleine’s lovely 4am wake up on the first morning!)

The grounds are lovely too, very quiet and serene if you are looking for a break that feels out in the middle of nowhere without it being too desolate.

Newton Halls sister property is the nearby 5 star, Joiners Arms Inn, which is where breakfast is served (or you can have grab bags delivered to the room). We opted to go over to the Joiners Arms so it felt more like a luxury break away for us, as I did not want to be washing dishes whilst we were away. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious, with lots of continental meats, breads, pastries, yoghurts, cereal and more and that was before you got to the cooked options. The staff were fantastic and really accommodating, especially with our little girl in tow for our evening meals.

All in all, I would thoroughly recommend Cabin Walk at Newton Hall for a little UK staycation near the beach. It served as a great base for exploring the area. It had the right mix of being family friendly but with those added, extra touches of luxury for the parents who aren’t quite ready to embrace hotel kids clubs just yet!
