There are few things that can make for a more successful day than a good morning routine. Aside from making sure that your kids arrive on time, you can ensure they’re ready for a day of learning, paving the way for more positive achievements throughout the day and maintaining a happy, healthy life.

As someone who is about to embark on the nursery journey very soon, I feel like I might need to make note of these tips!

The night before

The most important thing you do to ensure a good morning routine is to get plenty of sleep. A lot of parents struggle with getting their kids to bed at any time resembling reasonable. The best way to do this is to establish a nighttime routine, as well, starting to get ready 30-50 minutes before everyone hits the bed. Bedtime reading is excellent for ensuring that your child stays still long enough to fall asleep, as well. Good sleep is vital for good health, too.

Do some prep-work

One part of the bedtime routine can be making sure that everything is ready for the next day, as well. Getting their schoolbag packed and prepped, checking their homework, and laying out their clothes for the next day can all be vital for ensuring that you don’t have to spend as much time rushing in the morning, and can instead be a little more relaxed about it, instead. From the moment that your children start attending nursery, you should get used to having a nighttime routine that does a lot of the work of getting ready for the next day. We are already actively doing this and it does make the next day a lot easier!

Wake up!

Laying in and procrastinating on getting up is all too easy, but it’s also going to make the morning routine a lot harder to keep up with. As such, you should make sure that you wake up as soon as the morning begins, such as by strategically scheduling alarms to make sure that you get up when you’re likely to be at your most alert. Get up, splash some water on your face, and get ready for the day ahead.

Get their metabolism right

It’s important to ensure that your kids eat something for breakfast, even if it’s just a yoghurt pot and a granola bar, to get their metabolism running so that their energy levels are maintained throughout the day. Take a look at how to improve school lunches so that they can keep up with them later in the day, as well. Otherwise, your kids could end up tanking and getting tired halfway through the school day.

A little reward can go a long way

Relying too hard on bribery as a parent can be very risky, offering your kids the tools to become master negotiators who won’t lift a finger unless there’s something in it for them. However, creating incentives for the morning behaviour you want to see can be vital for getting your kids to actively engage in a healthy routine before school. This can include stopping for a special breakfast at a place they like to eat.

It’s not always easy to stick to a morning routine, but it’s important to make sure that you do it. If you need to rely on aids and shortcuts like alarm clocks and write lists on the wall, then so be it. Your child’s success at school is worth the work!
