7 Reasons To Get Excited For Fall When You Are A Parent

September brings all of the routine of school back into your lives after what may have been a relaxed summer holiday making memories. (And, for me, the return back to work after my maternity. Sob!) But while school might not be the most exciting thing about this time of the year, although many parents would argue differently, autumn can be a joyous season to embrace with your children. The weather is usually still good, albeit cooler, and having that routine in the mornings brings structure and balance to your day. However, there are plenty of other reasons why you need to get excited for fall, especially as a parent. Whether you have young children, tweens, or even teens, there are plenty of ways to embrace the autumn months and enjoy quality time as a family. Here are some of the top reasons why you need to get on board with this time of year.

Settle in to Gilmore Girl season as I affectionately call it, grab your best mug with a basic PSL in it, grab the blankets and let’s get stuck in to 7 Reasons To Get Excited For Fall When You Are A Parent!

It’s the cosy season

Let’s start with one of the big reasons why this season is one of the best, and that is because you can start to get all cosy at home. The nights are drawing in, the candles can be lit, and you can wear all of the knitwear. As parents, it is the perfect reason to stay at home. Watch films and enjoy snacks in front of the fire, sit outside with a fire and toast some marshmallows while cuddled up under a blanket, and enjoy those early nights reading stories. The cosy season is all about being together and enjoying one another’s company.

School routines and new chapters

School starts again in September and for many parents, it is the official new year. Forget December 31st this is the time of year to make those resolutions and have a fresh start. The start of a new routine not just for you, but a fresh chapter for your little ones. A new school year is exciting and the change is something to embrace.

It’s all about the pumpkins

Autumn is also pumpkin season. For parents with younger kids, this is the time of year to head to the pumpkin patch and pick your pumpkins for baking and turning into delicious treats. Not to mention picking some out to decorate and calve to place outside the front door. Pumpkins are a huge part of this time of year, and for us parents, it also means the pumpkin spiced latte is back in our favourite coffee houses. Need we say more?

Baking in the kitchen

It’s too hot to bake in the summer, so now that the temperature is cooling it is the ideal time to get in the kitchen with the kids and start baking. You might want to take advantage of your bumper haul from the pumpkin patch and make some delicious homemade pumpkin muffins, pumpkin bread, or even some pumpkin pie. If you are all pumpkin’d out then chocolate muffins, a cake, or banana bread could be a tasty alternative.

Halloween and Bonfire night

Halloween is one of the best times of the year for families. Planning costumes, either just for your kids, or family-themed ones, hosting parties, and taking your kids “trick or treating” it is a time of the year that many kids love, young or old. A few days later it is all about the fireworks and bonfire night. Time to eat a toffee apple and watch the night sky be filled with all of the twinkly lights.

The hot drinks

As a parent, there is no denying that a decent hot beverage can be a highlight of your day! No judgment. After all, the fall brings with it pumpkin-spiced lattes, mochas, and all those other wonderful hot drinks that you just can’t enjoy in the summer months. Whether you make them at home or treat yourself to a takeout at your favourite coffee place, now is the time to enjoy that special hot chocolate, latte, and flavoured Americano.

Scrunchy leaves and embracing nature

Young children see magic in things we adults can take for granted, and autumn is full of magic. The leaves have fallen to the ground creating a sea of beautiful colours across the pavements. The scrunch under your feet and the change in scenery are all things that your kids will get excited about. So enjoy the free entertainment and take your kids out for walks and embrace nature. I call it a WOW walk wher The weather is still good, but even with rain, put on those boots and jump in those muddy puddles. Younger children especially will love this.

Autumn is a great time of year for everyone and hopefully sharing some of these reasons why you should be excited about it as a parent has given you some ideas on what to do over the coming months.
