5 WAYS TO GET LUXURY TRAVEL FOR LESS

This post includes referral and sponsored links.

I bet you’re wondering why some people get bumped up to first class whilst you stay in “cattle class” or others get to stay in gorgeous hotels whilst you feel like you’re slumming it in a 2 star all-inclusive on holiday. Well, you don’t have to have a bag full of cash to have access to all the luxuries that others get to enjoy when they board a plane. Here’s how I manage to get the best discounts and find the best luxury travel deals around.

USE LUXURY DISCOUNT SITES

Travelscoop scour the internet for deals with the likes of Secret Escapes and Voyage Prive which are well-known for their discounted luxury holiday deals! It does the hard work so you don’t have to, and lots of other offers can be found too! It really is a one-stop-shop for finding luxury breaks away.

They also host amazing travel competitions too, which is all the more reason to sign up and get entering.

Finally if you’re looking for information on up & coming destinations they have a great blog section with great, informative posts to help you decided on your next trip.

SIGN UP TO CASHBACK SITES

I wish I’d caught on to this bandwagon a long time ago, but alas, this is a new tip that I’ve just picked up on. Having just booked my 30th birthday trip to Mexico, I went through Top Cashback and earnt myself a nice sum of £40 by simply clicking on a link to the TUI website via the Top Cashback website.

I have a referral code here if you wish to sign up.

Not only can you get cashback on your actual holiday but you can use it to go through to different clothing brands too, so you can totally justify that seventh bikini you want to buy too! My only regret is that I didn’t do this sooner.

Whilst there’s no immediate benefit or saving, at least you know that you’re going to get some money back for that big purchase & I’ll gladly take that £40 back in my pocket.

MAKE USE OF TOUR OPERATOR DISCOUNTS

Long gone are the days where tour operators would bump up the original, standard prices and offer to discounts to make it look like the consumer was getting a good deal, instead when you find discount codes on their websites, you really are getting a good deal!

So when the likes of TUI or Thomas Cook offer money off voucher codes, YOU NEED TO USE THEM.

Take my Mexico trip, for example, there were different codes for different codes for different spend levels. It actually worked out better value for me to book an “A La Carte” holiday and going slightly over the threshold to get £250 off, rather than spending under it and getting only £100 off. If you’re clever like this, you can get way more bang for your buck!

RISK IT FOR A BISCUIT WITH UPGRADES

It is a risky tip, but, try asking for any seat upgrades when you are at the airport check-in rather than booking them beforehand.

When we booked our Mexico trip the extra leg room seats were over £1000 and I’ve already had a call telling me that if I book it now I can get it under £800. I’ve politely declined (however nice it would be to have it booked!) and I’m going to see if I can bump up to the premium seats or at the very least, get extra leg room when I check in for even less.

When we travelled to Egypt a few years ago and at the time of booking the airline wanted to charge £50 per person for extra leg room. Instead we waited until we got to the check-in desks and managed to get it for £10 per person! Not a huge saving, but one I will gladly take.

As I mentioned this is a risky one, but it’s worth holding out just in case!

USE FLIGHT & HOTEL COMPARISON SITES

If you’re not too pressed for dates, why not do an “any date, any airport, anywhere” search on SkyScanner?

I managed to find return flights for 2 of us to Oslo, Norway for well under £100 over a May Bank Holiday – which was great and I didn’t have to take too many days off work.

Once I find my cheap flights I then use booking.com as a great base for finding hotels as I find the site pretty user-friendly and then, once I’ve found the hotel I like I head over to somewhere like Trivago to see if I can get it cheaper with any other accommodation providers.

Sometimes I’m happy to scrimp on my flights and fly with a low-cost airline if that means I can put way more in to getting a beautiful, 4 or 5 star hotel when I arrive at my destination.

Do you have any tips for getting luxury for less?
