Anniversary Weekend at Otley Chevin Country Hotel & Spa | QueenBeady

Otley Chevin Country Hotel and Spa

I’m not going to lie, I was pretty bummed that we hadn’t made any elaborate plans for our 1st wedding anniversary on Sunday. I knew we would go out to dinner but for some reason this just was not getting my pulse going. I needed something a little more luxurious that wasn’t going to break the bank. I turned to Mr C & I said; ”Please can we just see if there are any dinner, bed & breakfast deals somewhere?” bearing in mind this was 2.30pm on the day of our anniversary. I was determined we weren’t just going to let it pass by. Granted, Mr C had gone out and bought me some of the most beautiful flowers and yes, his card actually made me weep the morning I opened it as he put something ”semi-romantic” in it, which in my eyes means a lot coming from someone who isn’t quite the most romantic man in the world. We had off-loaded the dog already so I needed something, anything!

After googling various things, heading on to lastminute.com and booking.com I reverted back to google and made one last attempt and flicked through a few more pages. The old wives tale of ”if you click page 2 on google you are clutching at straws” and I really was, but due to my determination I actually found something quite pleasant. Now I had heard of Otley Chevin Country Hotel & Spa before. It always comes up if I’m looking for a spa day, but I always dismiss it as it’s a little out the way for a group of girlfriends to go especially if we want some alcoholic bubbles in the Jacuzzi.

After having a little browse on their website I came across a Sunday night offer where it included a 6 course meal and a bottle of champagne in the room on arrival. For a mere £109 we were getting a lovely night away in the countryside. All frills included! After a 40 minute drive we arrived and checked in without a hassle. We were kindly told that we would be staying in the Executive Lodge too, which was even more exciting. It just kept getting better & better because the spa was included in the price too. I almost felt like I was at Centre Parcs, with all the tree’s and facilities it had to offer. I mean look at the amazing view we got out of our lodge window?

On arrival the room was equipped with all the usual tea and coffee facilities for those who like there home comforts, but the big winner for us was the large bottle of champagne on ice waiting for us. Determined not to get too giddy we changed in to our bathing suits and headed to the spa for a little bit of relaxation. We sat in the outdoor hot tub for ages whilst the bubbles flowed and we sat and chatted wide eyed and excited! There was something so peaceful about being so far away from the hustle and bustle of life. I mean it’s hard not to when the views are as breath taking at this?

After our little trip to the spa we decided to retreat back to the room and indulge in a glass (or three!) of champers whilst we got ready for our six-course table d’hôte meal that we had booked for 8.30pm. Wild ideas were discussed about eloping to another country like Greece, you know, the silly things that you discuss when you are merry. The things you’d love to do if money and life circumstances were no object. To dream ey? As we were so tipsy we excitedly cahtted away through the meal and watched the wonderful views of the lake once more, not only that but the geese had five baby goslings which had taken residence giving us a wonderful sight as we enjoyed our goats cheese risotto and sea bass, respectively.

We stumbled back the lodge after finishing off a bottle of prosecco and were ready to rest our weary head after the whirlwind day we had. Little did we know that the morning breakfast would provide a welcome feast for our slightly sore heads in the morning. To say breakfast was delicious would be a huge understatement. The menu was vast, but each option clearly had a lot of thought behind it. I am always the first person in line for a full English but that morning I was presented with some of the most mouth-watering concoctions. I opted for the cinnamon French toast, smoked bacon and a dowsing of maple syrup which was just tantalising on the tongue, words cannot explain how good it was. James went for a full English with an extra sausage (minus the black pudding & haggis) and although it looked a small portion he said it was plenty to fill your stomach! Once again we were met with the glorious sunshine and the picturesque views of the lake.

After being suitably filled to the brim with constant OJ, coffee and food we headed back to the room to pack our bags and make our way back home. It really was a whirlwind night away and it’s so great to just head off on a whim like this. It made it even more exciting that it was our first wedding anniversary too. It was without a doubt one of the nice nights away we have had, a reasonable price for a bagful of treats on arrival too. I’m already trying to work out when we could sneak another Sunday night offer in again!

Have you ever stayed here? Or would you head here after reading my blog? I’d love to hear from you.
