A Weekend in Amsterdam #2 | QueenBeady

December 30, 2015

Friday Next Exhibition

With our first day of our weekend in Amsterdam under our belt, you can read part on here, it was time to explore a little bit further after plenty of naps and a good nights sleep on the first day. First on the agenda was breakfast. But it turned more in to Brunch by the time we had lazily got up and showered. We had spotted this super cute and pretty funky art café on Overtoom called Friday Next. Adorned with really cool interior pieces and gifts, there was so much to look at whilst we ate our delicious eggs and bacon! Plus, it was the first time I’ve ever drunk tea out of a tall glass!

With everything looking pretty darned beautiful in Friday Next, I had to contain myself and keep my purse at bay otherwise it would have got a serious shafting. Mr C is pretty good with money so we quickly vacated before it was too late and made our way over to VondelPark. Because it was just a mere stones throw away from our apartment it made the walk to more central places much prettier. Everywhere you look, despite the pretty bleak weather, was something to look at all around you.

Oh, look at Mr C looking all cute and stuff in front of the band stand. He’s so shy when it comes to having his photo taken but with it being my first abroad trip since getting my Canon 100D it meant that plenty of photos were going to be taken, mainly of him!

VondelPark Love Locks

Everywhere in Amsterdam there were so many cute “love lock bridges” just like those in Paris. I was so sad that we didn’t have a padlock to add to one of the bridges so I’ve made it a resolution that we of course need to go back and add one VERY soon. There was even plenty of little parakeets flying around whistling and singing whilst we hada brisk walk around the park. Trying to get a good shot of them was so difficult against the bright white sky. It almost looked like it could have snowed!

Despite walking around the park for over an hour watching running groups, football clubs and dog walkers, we could have gone on for much longer but we decided it was time to stop and get a refill. A strong Americano, so milk no sugar for Mr C and a calorific Chocomel for me. We even tried their mulled wine and I have to say, that is one thing I am not a fan of. Whilst we sat back and sipped on our drinks it was just so peaceful to watch everyone go about their business. Families taking their babies out in the pram, people walking their ever so cute dogs to big groups of people and couples wandering around the city just like us – wide eyed and bushy tailed.

We decided to have a wander across to MuseumPlein which took us about ten minutes to get to. This is where the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum are. So if you are looking for a little bit of culture here is the place to do it. Plus, they had the ice skating rink placed in from of the #IAmsterdam sign and it made for a very pretty photo up on the bridge. I could have watched people skating all day!

IAMSTERDAM

Concert Hall

After a little while longer we made our way back to the apartment as it began to rain pretty heavily for a few solid hours. We ate our leftover meze platter from the day before and scrolled through TripAdvisor trying to find somewhere for Dinner. We had hoped to go to a cute little Dutch place but it was fully booked, so instead we headed to a Chinese we had been to many moons ago – not exactly what we had had in mind but my goodness, James & I declared it as one of the best Chinese meals we have ever had. I’m actually so glad we went in here during the wind and rain storm.

Day 2 was a lovely, relaxed day again spent enjoying some of the areas we love best! I do hope you are enjoying my Amsterdam posts and I can’t wait to share with you my last and final post about our trip because it contains ALL DA ANIMALS, and we all love animals, right?
