New Conservatory Leeds main taster

I was recently invited to review the The New Consevatory, Leeds new menu. I’d seen plenty of other bloggers head here and I had never had the pleasure yet so I was excited to see what was in store. The Restaurant and Bar is situated on Albion Place which is very central within Leeds. A very beautiful building, you head down the stairs to the bustling bar. The décor reminds me of an old-world orangery of a very regal house. The walls are lined with book shelves, with many, many novels and hardbacks adorning them, making it a really unique venue. Spending the night with my BFF was also a massive bonus, ‘cos you know we all need to blow off some steam every once in a while, she probs ate her belly pork quietly whilst getting a little bit of TMI, but who cares? FYI, spoiler alert, the belly pork was to die for.

You’ll first of all, have to forgive me for the photos, the lighting wasn’t particularly great so I do hope that my photos do the food justice. As mentioned, the bar was heaving, I imagine as it was a preview evening (although I can’t be sure) there was also an acoustic musician playing live, however, it was a little over powering especially with the busyness of the restaurant too. My friend & I got seated right round the corner so eventually we managed to block out the sound. As we looked over the menu our lovely waitress came to explain that we would be getting a little bit of each for starter, main & desert which suited me just fine. I’m one of those people that kicks themselves if someone else’s food is better than mine.

So of course, being a massive cheese fiend (“Hallou?” Is it “mi” you are looking for? Okay, I’ll stick to my day job) the fact this was on offer gave me all the freaking chillz. I added a “Z” for real effect there. The fishcake was a little bit surplus to requirement because the belly pork was so darned delicious & I could have probably eaten a whole pig cooked like this (I do not lie, I probably could! My husband would almost certainly back me up on this) It was on a whole ‘nother level, delicious. How it melted in your mouth and when washed down with prosecco bellini you know me and ma girl are gonna be happy.

When you put a plate filled with beef, lamb & fish in front of me, boy do I grin from ear to ear. The lamb on a bed of mash was to die for and could have happily ate another dozen plates of the stuff (#ILoveFood) the beef was a little tough, if I am completely honest, but still pretty tasty once is was all masticated & stuff (yup, a mental image for y’allll there!) and the cod was yummy. (read, I am not an actual full time food critic, but hey, I do know when my belly is happy & it was most definitely happy.) Overall the lamb was my fave, but because we had already eaten so much I wasn’t too sure I could handle much more & when my three deserts landed on my plate I just knew I had to take one for the team and bosh the lot, I mean, it’d be rude not to. Am I right?

I was expecting the lemon cheesecake to be the top dog here, purely because I love something “zangy” after a big meal, but in all honesty, the salted caramel mouse was my winner and my friend agreed! We needn’t have worried too much about the portion size as we both managed to scoff the lot and we both felt pretty alright after it, too. No unbuttoning the top button this time, Us 1 – 0 Food.

Overall (god, I hate that word) we had a really good time, whilst the atmosphere was great, it was a little too loud for a dinner on a school night but the food made up for this and we had an awesome time. ‘Cos you know, food?

Have you been to the New Conservatory? What did you think? Or, are you gonna head there after seeing this review? I’d love to know what you think!
