You know I’m one for my luxury for less weekend breaks and holidays to the Caribbean, but, I equally love a weekend spent camping here in the UK. The saying, “get yourself a girl who can do both” springs to mind.
There’s something very soothing about hunkering down in your tent, with a big mug of tea from the thermal flask, listening to the rain “tap, tap, tap” around you. Of course though, you have to do it with some style – right? Here are some luxury camping essentials from Simply Hike we never fail to take with us on our trips…
A TENT YOU CAN STAND UP IN
Sounds ridiculous, I know, but seriously. Purchasing a tent where you can stand up to go about your daily tasks when camping is essential to a comfier, easier weekend away. I remember when Mr C & I would have the teeniest, tiniest two-man tent where we constantly fell over, couldn’t take our wellies off and don’t get me started on when the outer layer and the inner layer touched – we are talking soggy central! This Robens tentwill certainly do the trick as it stands at 155cm high – perfect.
THE SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS
Other than your tent, I would say the next thing you need to spend money on is a quality sleeping bag. It was the best thing we ever did and we can now sleep soundly without freezing to death on a night. Find one that suits 3 seasons – ideally Spring through to Autumn (chances are you won’t be camping in the winter – if you are, I’m seriously questioning your sanity right now!) You need a breathable sleeping bag that traps in the heat in the colder weather but also allows you to unzip if it’s rather warm. If you want to be off the ground, invest in a premium air bed or a well-padded camp bed. Make no mistakes when buying your sleeping gear for camping, it could be what makes or breaks for your first camping trip.
“EXTRA” COOKING EQUIPMENT
This fire stove brings a whole other level to camping. Gone are the days where you would just cook on disposable BBQ’s! The great thing about this fire stove is that it’s reusable – you can burn branches and wood to keep it going too and when you’ve finished cooking and it’s cooled down, you can pack it down in to a handy-sized bag. Sausage, anyone?
COMFORT IS KEY
Chances are, if you’re camping, you aren’t going to be getting dolled up to go for a slap up meal but that doesn’t mean you can’t dine in style whilst you’re out in the wilderness – oh no. Comfort is key and bringing along a nice, padded, comfy chairto stargaze from on a night will make the whole experiences much more bearable for passing the time. Camping can be hard on your backs and tushes’, so being able to laze around comfortably is one of the little pleasures we can endure on ourselves.
A LANTERN
No-one likes things that go bump in the night, so having a torch or lanternon standby can come in very handy when you’re trying to navigate yourself to the loo in the middle of the night! Plus, it’s always nice to have a light for you all to sit round the campfire with some extra light, listening to some tunes and enjoying the night sky.
